Facebook as WEB 2.0

Facebook, a big feather in cap of web 2.0 technology is one of the craziest addictions among all generations.

Web 2.0 is a web application, which involves the technology of '' Interactivity''. In a Prosumer model, the producer & the consumer both share an equal importance in a virtual community.

Information Sharing is the major attraction of facebook. Here, every individual entering the virtual community shares his/her personal/public information with the whole world. The informations shared by ''peer-to-peer'' groups are possible by the design & mechanisms of WALL (where individuals post their opinions, ''what's on your mind'' ), Messages, comments on post, or simply using IM'S.

Facebook incorporates the concept of photo & video uploading and link sharing. People can upload photos and can share videos, and links and interaction is possible by commenting on the material posted.

Another important feature of Web 2.0 technology is noted here. The concept of Folksonomy (Folk + taxsonomy) is used in the form of photo tagging. The most amazing aspect of facebook is the profile section, which includes country, valid e-mail id, relationship status, favourite books, movies etc, thereby creating a web cloud of centralized informations.

The complicated issues surrounding WEB 2.0 technology is the concern of privacy. Web 2.0 incorporates a web cloud, thereby leaves a chance of hacking & breaching privacy. It can suspend somebody's account for using abusive languages, making bad remarks that are relating to social, political, ethnic, racism etc.

Facebook is not only a medium for ''read & write'' which Tim Berners-Lee describes the web to be, but it is something more than that. A perfect ''interactive'' and ''collaborative'' medium, that emphasizes the hype of web 2.0.

Perhaps the craze is best summed up by Hinchcliffe, 2006- '' Web 2.0 is a term you love to hate or hate to love but either way, you''ll know you''ll get folk's attention by saying it.''
